Hierarchical Computer System

The complex nature of control and information in the cold mill requires a hierarchical system to meet manufacturing needs.  Precise control of the equipment, process modeling and supervision of each batch process, and the overall coordination of the facility, logically suggests a network of computers dedicated to discrete functions while sharing information. Include a strategy, integral to the network, dedicated to serving the needs of the operator, and one has the concept of the complexity involved with successful process automation.

Numeric levels represent the functions within the network, where lower numbers are concerned with discrete pieces of equipment and higher values are supervisory and global in nature.  Regardless of the magnitude of the cold mill batch process under consideration, multiple levels are necessary.
