Business Process and Level 3 Systems

In larger installations, there exists a need to coordinate the entire complex from a single computer.  This higher Level function serves to interface the Level 2 systems to the "outside" world and often contains high-level process information.  Typical examples of a Level 3 application are:

  • Generate mill lineup from a Level 6 plant wide scheduling computer
  • Keep process and quality standards at the mill level
  • Retain process and business information on a long term basis
  • Relational database of all collected process variables
  • Retain, summarize and send process data to Level 6
  • Send necessary information to accounting systems
  • Retain maintenance records and spare parts
  • Coordinate material between the hot mill and coil process line
  • Coordinate with hot mill shipping
