Furnace Auxiliaries

IPACT has provided Level I control of blast furnace auxiliary areas, including:

• A thickener automation system which controls rake arm height to achieve proper torque and uses an innovative control method to regulate pumping of sludge from the thickener.  Air pressure to the sludge pumps is controlled to achieve uniform stroke times, thereby reducing wear and downtime on the pumps.

• A baghouse fan control system that provided independent control of multiple large fans, along with "soft start" sequenced  starting and safety interlocks for each fan motor and on another furnace, a dust collection automation system.

• A stove gas safety system that insured the safe operation of the combustion systems on each of the three stoves and captured and displayed to the operator the first interlock lost whenever a stove lost permission to fire.
