Process Scanner and Real-Time Database

IPACT has developed a Level II database for real time process data and an associated scanner system move data to/from that database, as well as the rather extensive logic necessary in Level I to support these data transfers. The scanner system acquires all of the process data from Level I, converts it into engineering units, and writes it into the process database.  For output data, this process is reversed.  The scan system can also generate database variables ("calculated variables") that are the results of calculations using process data variables.  Scan frequency can be specified for each input, output, or calculated variable independently of other points.

The process database exists in order to standardize how process points are configured, updated, and retrieved, and to make process data universally available to other Level II functions.  Associated with it is a database editor for creating and editing point descriptions, and access routines by which client tasks read from and write to the database.
