Statistical Process Control

The advent of automated SPC packages in the early 1990’s and beyond has enabled may systems integration firms to claim that they “do SPC”.  If “doing SPC” just means directing a stream of input data to the SPC package and configuring it to display on charts, then perhaps this claim is valid.

However, IPACT takes a different view.  We believe that automating statistical process control properly requires SPC expertise, just as automating a process properly requires process expertise.  That is why we have an engineer on our staff who has been certified by the American Society for Quality Control as a Quality Engineer.  This certification is not simple to obtain – it requires the applicant to pass a day-long battery of tests on statistics and their application to quality control and manufacturing processes.  In addition, our ASQC Certified Quality Engineer has years of experience in applying SPC in real-life manufacturing situations.

Thus, IPACT can not only plug data into an automated SPC package, we can assist our customers with all phases of their SPC projects.  When we automate SPC, we do it with an detailed knowledge of all the “whys” and “wherefores”, so that the result to the customer is useful and valid statistical data.

One of our customers found that existing SPC packages did not meet their needs, which lead us to develop our own ISPC package.  One of the unique features of this product is that it assumes that production data resides in an existing relational database, and is designed to operate directly on that database.  Please click on the links below to learn more about ISPC, and a typical SPC application.
