The desire to
integrate the higher levels of enterprise automation
with the manufacturing floor has spawned a large
number of alphabet-soup acronyms over the past 20
years. Regardless of what the acronym du jour
is, the fundamental goals remain the same: enable
the high levels of automation to plan and schedule
with as much flexibility as possible what, when,
where, and how the facility is to produce, and to
make all desirable information feedback from the
facility available to whoever needs it in both real
time and historical formats.
IPACT has been
working towards these goals with our customers for
our entire history. We have installed systems that
perform flexible scheduling, plant-wide recipe
management, inventory management, conformance
tracking, quality monitoring and SPC, supervisory
control, material and batch tracking, machine
metrics, and downtime analysis, to name a few.
This work has enabled
our customers to save literally millions of dollars
in production costs. In one case, for example, our
material tracking system highlighted to our customer
that they were being systematically shorted on raw
material by one of their suppliers. The savings
from just this discovery alone was worth several
hundred thousand dollars per year to this customer.
