Caster
Projects
IPACT has designed and
developed several control and monitoring
systems for continuous casters, including:
-
A mold level
control system which measured
the level of molten steel in the
mold (via a Hall effect
transducer), and controlled the
level of molten metal in the
mold via slide-gate position and
caster speed.
-
Torch cut and
spray water control. The system
monitored slab flow, and
subsequent cooling rate, and
supervised the torch cut
process.
-
A caster
breakout detection system within
a Level II environment. The
system monitored caster
thermocouples and utilized the
customer's proprietary breakout
model to predict potential
breakouts in time for corrective
action to be taken.
-
A slab
disposition monitoring system
that acquired slab process data
and forwarded slab process
history to a plant-wide slab
history process system. The
system also monitored the motor
load currents for the 44 motors
on the caster to support
preventive maintenance and
defect analysis.
