Bar Mill Speed/Looper Control System

A system to control all stand speeds in an 18-stand bar mill was designed and commissioned by IPACT engineers.  The system was capable of configuring loops based on the stands being used and cascading speeds from a selectable pivot stand.  The system reads all the operator controls, including speed vernier sticks, as inputs and controlled stand speeds via the motor fields (full and weak field limits were considered).  The system was comprised of two (2) DEC computers, a programmable controller, and had two (2) CRT interfaces to the operators for speed setup and one (1) CRT that provided maintenance personnel with numerous maintenance-oriented displays.
