Arc Length Positioning System - 84 MVA Arc Furnace

A control system to replace the existing regulator, DC drives and auxiliary functions on a 48 MVA Electric Arc Furnace (EAF).  Scope of work included the replacement of the existing hardwired electrode hoist controls with a PLC based current regulator and analog interface to existing Westinghouse C-56 DC Drives.  Primary and secondary transformer metering, on-line, under-load tap changer control and transformer protection equipment was also provided.

Arc Length Positioning System - 48 MVA Arc Furnace

IPACT designed, built and commissioned a control system to replace the existing regulator, DC drives and auxiliary functions on a 48 MVA Electric Arc Furnace (EAF).  Scope of work included the replacement of the existing hardwired electrode regulator and DC drives with a PLC based current regulator and four (4) Allen-Bradley 1395 DC Drives.  Three of the four drives were connected and supplied power to the electrode hoist motors, while the fourth drive was wired as a spare.  Through a series of transfer switches, a faulted drive could be removed from service and its associated motor could be connected to the spare drive.  Additional functions included primary and secondary transformer metering, transformer protection and HMI interface.
