Blast Furnace Stove System Application

Using our extensive knowledge of steel processes, and blast furnaces in particular, IPACT has produced a stove system application that includes the following functionality:

  • Stove combustion control.
  • Stove sequencing.
  • Gas safety logic.
  • Hot blast control.
  • Dust catcher control.

Most older stove control systems are based on a Distributed Control System (DCS), sometimes along with a PLC system for gas safety.  IPACT’s stove system is based on Rockwell ControlLogix PLCs doing the control, and Wonderware’s System Platform providing the higher level functions and operator interface.  The features and advantages of this system over older DCS/PLC systems are:

  • Screens designed for operators to be easy to transition to.

  Stove System Overview

  • System has been fully tested against simulation.
  • Will install with a minimum of downtime in the field.  May be able to use I/O from existing PLC system (including A-B and Modicon).
  • Routine engineering maintenance of I/O scaling, alarm limits, etc. can be done from the HMI and does not require programming in a PLC or System Platform.
  • Designed to feed a Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) with information.
  • All sequencing using common SFC structure which is shown on the HMI.

 Stove System SFC Screen

  • Enhanced sequencing message and diagnostics over older systems.
  • Enhanced gas safety “first fault” messages and detailed diagnostics.
  • Enhanced combustion control model over older systems – simple, flexible, adapts to handle common instrumentation issues.
  • Combustion control programmed using A-B function blocks for easy understanding.
